Continue ShoppingHave you ever been shopping at the store or online and always get stuck when you have to choose the number of hair bundles to purchase for your sew-in? We’ve all been there. There is no real answer. It depends on what style you are doing from a closure sew in, leave out, or a lace frontal.
A few factors go into choosing how many hair bundles of weave you'll need for your desired look. To help you make an informed decision, we put together this guide so you don't have to navigate the wide world of weave alone.
Rule of thumb: the longer the length of your hair bundles, the more hair your generally going to need. All virgin hair naturally thins out towards the tips, so we suggest more bundles for a fuller look from root to tip. This chart below will help you decide how many bundles you need based on length:
Curly and straight human hair are of different densities. Curly hair is naturally fuller hence you may need fewer bundles. With Kinky curly hair, you can get away with fewer bundles since the hair density is naturally going to be to a fuller. We recommend 2-3 bundles for a naturally full look. If you wear straight human hair, then you will need more bundles to create a full look. Although Kinky straight hair is still full from root to tip, you might need more bundles to create a super full look. We recommend 3-4 bundles depending on the length.
You know, different sizes of the heads, it needs different volumes of the hair bundles to make a full head weave. In the US, the average size of a woman’s head is 22.5 inches. Grab your measuring tape and wrap it around your head from ear-to-ear so it fits comfortably and figure out your measurements. If the size of your head is above the average, you may need more hair. If the size is less than the average, you may need less.
The ear to ear 4x13 lace frontal will cover more spaces than closure or leave out, so the hair amount you need will vary. If you choose to wear between 8 to 18 inches then 2 bundles are perfect. Or, if you choose a length greater than 18 inches, then 3 bundles are recommended. You can choose bundles of varying lengths if you want the wig to have layers.
All in all, I recommend buying 2-3 bundles for a naturally full look and 3-4 bundles for more volume or fullness. As mentioned before these numbers can vary depending on the length, the texture and if you are using a hairpiece. My biggest tips are to always buy an extra bundle. I can make sure you will use it at some point and time anyway. On our website, now is 3 bundles with lace frontal. By the way, if you want an extra bundle, pls tell us in advance.
Closures are usually 4 x 4 inches and can sit either directly in the middle of the crown of your head. They can be altered moderately to the side to maintain a side-part style.
If your wig will be short ranging between 8 to 14 inches, then you will need two bundles. However, if you want it longer in the 14 – 22-inch range, then purchase three bundles. Be careful when you go higher than 20 inches because the hair is scanty at the ends as it gets longer.
